Mera Bhavishya

For 2020 our Coaches and Children have developed the theme of ‘Find Your Place’ around which to centre much of our work.

Find Your Place

Find Your Place is an idea developed through discussion amongst our Khelo Rugby community of young coaches and players. It includes the idea of figuring out where you want to get to in life and what you need to do in order to reach these targets. What studies are needed, how to find a job, what sort of job you’d want to do. Thinking about the place you stay and the people who live with and around you. Find what you are good at and what you enjoy doing. Setting goals and working out how to achieve them.

At Khelo Rugby we want to have a positive impact on children both as individuals and in their role as part of a family and wider community. We start very small with catching and throwing a rugby ball. With our work each month on a different theme our objective is to instil in young players a sense of community and civic responsibility. The themes also lend themselves to developing skills in areas such as organising and leadership.

Since skills are important for young people today we are increasingly focused on skill development. Each month we have a theme and also a skill on which we will work with our Khelo Rugby children and young coaches.

Khelo Rugby has been largely built around the ideas of the children themselves and we are determined this should continue. We support learning through traditional methods where we sit and are taught but also want young people to explore their own ideas through ‘charchas’ where we employ open ended discussions, through peer learning where children learn from each other and from games and play.

A month’s activity may just involve a ‘charcha’ session where children discuss and think about the theme or it could be a major community initiative involving many hundreds of children – it is very much up to the children, what they decide.

As a rally point for ‘Find Your Place’ we have come up with the hashtag #MeraBhavishya or #MyFuture.
